Nathan Lord was the sixth president of Dartmouth College; he was in office from 1828 to 1863. He was born in Berwick, Maine in 1792, and was graduated from Bowdoin College in 1809. In 1815 he was graduated from Andover Theological Seminary. He received his DD from Bowdoin in 1828 and his LL. D. from Bowdoin in 1864. He was a trustee of Dartmouth College from 1821 to 1863. The celebration of the 150th anniversary of the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in the Dartmouth College Case was held on April 9, 1969, in the Court of Claims, Washington, D.C.; the celebration also commemorated the career of Daniel Webster, the advocate who defended the case before the Supreme Court.
